My name is Miranda (Maz) and I have had a passion for Underground music since 1996 at the age of 14, when I started listening to Happy Hardcore in my bedroom. I used to drive my parents mad playing it too loud. They used to bang on the ceiling with a stick to get me to turn it down lol!
At the age of 16, I went through a phase of having a passion for Jungle, as it had such a nice feel to it back then, nice mellow drum and bass lines. My love of music styles have varied somewhat since. I love genres such as Hardcore Breaks, Upfront Hardcore, Freeform, Gabber, Hardstyle, DnB, Trance, House, Hard Dance etc.
Being a Suffolk girl at heart, and having nothing much to do from day to day in the sticks; music was a big fulfilment in my life. The first tape pack I listened to on my Walkman was Dance Paradise in Great Yarmouth with Sharkey as the MC. I used to love that little tape pack, it was awesome! And Sharkey is still going strong, one of my favourite MC/DJ’s.
My first rave was in 1998 at Bagley’s Studios at United Dance...I have not turned my back on the rave scene since that day as the people and atmosphere made me feel so warm and welcome.
I started out promoting in August 2007 when I held my first ever Event at the Brixton Jamm in London. It was mainly based on Hardcore as that has always been my first love. But as with most Events, Promoters know it is a lot of hard work. I made a big loss on my first Event and have not been able to do another one as of yet. My intentions are to try and get another Event going soon where we can.
I have been DJ’ing for just over a year now having started out in March 2008 with Kam DDX4000 vinyl decks, a Korg KM-202 mixer and Sennheiser headphones. I practiced nearly every day consistently for 6 months, sometimes mixing on my decks more than twice a day....I was very determined to learn quickly.
About 7 months into my DJ’ing career I started an internet radio station called Underground Exhilaration. I still very much wanted to be part of the rave scene, and managing a radio station helped keep in touch with the scene. I haven’t yet produced any of my own tunes but I am looking into giving it a go in the near future. DJ’ing in Clubs hasn’t really been something I’m ready for as of yet, but you never know I may do in the future.
You can catch me live weekly on Underground Exhilaration, playing the finest in Upfront hardcore with a bit of Freeform thrown in for extra pleasure.
